The Mets defeated the Astros by the score of 5-1 this afternoon at Citi Field. R.A. Dickey notched his 9th win of the year.
The Mets broke a scoreless tie in the Bot of the 2nd. After a David Wright Walk, Ike Davis lined a double to RF putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Josh Thole would follow up Davis with a Walk, loading the bases with no outs. Then after a Luis Hernandez K, R.A. Dickey stepped to the plate and roped a single to CF scoring 2 runs and advancing Thole to 3rd. Angel Pagan would hit an RBI groundout to 2nd, making the score 3-0 and advancing Dickey to 2nd. Next hitter Luis Castillo singled to RF scoring Dickey, which capped off the 4-run 2nd inning.
The Astros manufactured their lone run in the Top of the 3rd. After a lead-off 2B by Jason Castro, and a SAC bunt by Pitcher Bud Norris, Michael Bourn would hit an RBI infield single to make the score 4-1.
The Mets would pad their lead in the Bot of the 6th on a Solo HR by Josh Thole, making the score 5-1, which was the final score of today's ball game.
R.A. was fantastic once again today. He had the Astros off balance all day as he pitched into the 8th inning. With his outing today, Dickey now qualifies for the leagues ERA title and sports a 2.57 ERA. Dickey finished the day with a line of 7+ IP, 1ER, 6 Hits, 2BB, 2K, and his 9th Win of the year.
Josh Thole had a very good day. He went 2-3, with a Solo HR, his second of the year, and a BB.
David Wright in his first at-bat of the day, took a fastball right under his chin for ball 4. This is starting to become an everyday occurence and it would be nice to see the Mets do the same to the opposing team's best hitter.
Happy 39th bithday to Henry Blanco.
The Mets evened their record 65-65, while finishing the homestand at 3-3. The Mets fly to Atlanta tonight and begin a 4 game series tomorrow with the Braves at Turner Field. The starting pitchers for tomorrow's game will be LHP Pat Misch for the Mets VS RHP Jair Jurrens of the Braves. Game time is 7:10PM.
