News: Oliver Perez

According to Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork, Oliver Perez wants to remain with the Mets next year. Said Perez, "I want to be back here. I want to have a championship because I know the fans want it and I want it, too. I know the people, they are not happy. I just tell the fans I've been working hard to get back. I didn't sign here to sit here and just wait. I signed here because I think we have the opportunity to try and win a championship. That is why I signed here." When asked if Mets fans had a right to be unhappy with him, Perez leaned on the fact that he is working hard."Sometimes you don't have to think about the other people," Perez said. "You have to try and get better, try and understand. Try to get back where I was before. I've been doing everything I can."

Is it me, or does everyone share the sentiment that I really don't care what Perez says. He has worn out his welcome. If he was just under performing on the field, I would understand and give him the benefit of the doubt. However the fact that he has refused a demotion to the minors and shortens the Mets' roster to 24 men is disgraceful. It has reached the point where your words don't mean anything to the team or the fan base. If you really want to stay here and prove you are a team player, take a demotion to Triple-A and work things out there. If not, then get out of here. The organization has plenty of players who can pitch to the tune of a 6.70 ERA and get paid a lot less than $12 Million/year.
