Rumor:

According to John Harper of the NY Daily News, the Mets have their eyes on Jake Westbrook of the Cleveland Indians. Harper writes, "the Indians would trade the 33-year-old Westbrook "in a minute" for a mid-level prospect if the Mets would pick up most of what's left on his $11 million contract this season. Westbrook is just 6-5 with a 4.67 ERA, so the Mets could pull off a deal without giving up prospects Jenrry Mejia or Wilmer Flores."

Opinion: This is exactly the type of deal the Mets need to make if they are not going to acquire a front line starting pitcher such as Roy Oswalt. If the Mets can pick up a guy like Jake Westbrook who is a sinker pitcher that throws a lot of ground balls for a mid level prospect and take on only about roughly 5 million of salary, you would think this is a no brainer. Westbrook I feel would be very successful pitcher at Citi Field and can easily slide right into the rotation while putting Takahashi back in the pen. This is a deal you have to make Omar.
