Jon Heyman was a guest with Steve Somers on WFAN tonight. Here is a wrap-up of what they discussed:
Jerry Manuel is very much on the hot seat right now. The Mets need to start playing inspired baseball if he is going to last until the end of the season. Whether Manuel is replaced during the middle of this season or before next season, he believes that Bob Melvin is the future manager in waiting. He said that right now he is the clear cut choice of the organization over Bobby Valentine, Wally Backman, and even Lou Piniella.
Regarding a report this week about the Mets shopping around Jeff Francoeur he said that it could be possible, however his value is so low right now, it might not even be worth doing.
Regarding team chemistry, he feels that they team actually still has good chemistry. Many people feel that Carlos Beltran is not a good teammate. However, Heyman states that this is absolutely not true. He feels that people think this way about Beltran because of his low key personality.
