Johan And Bay Lead The Way

Johan Santana was fantastic tonight. He was spotting his fastball all over the zone and his changeup was fooling hitters all night. He threw 74 of his 98 pitches for strikes. He set the tone for this game from his first pitch. Johan has now givin up 1 run or less in 13 of his 21 starts this year. His final line for the night is as follows:

7IP 1ER 5 Hits 1BB 4K

Jerry Manuel shuffled the lineup once again tonight by moving Castillo to the 2 hole, Pagan to the 3, and Wright and Beltran to the 4 and 5 spots respectively.

Jason Bay finally broke out of his 4 month funk in a big way tonight. In his first at bat of the night he blooped a single in front of the LF Jamey Carroll. Then in the Top of the 8th he got his biggest hit as a Met with a 3 RBI 2B to right centerfield to break the game open. He also played fantastic defense tonight. He made a great play robbing Jamy Carroll of a 2B in the Bot of the 2nd while catching the ball and crashing face first into the outfield wall. He was shaken up but obviously remained in the game. He finished his night going 2-4 with 3 RBI an a 2B.

The Mets defense was fantastic all night. Angel Pagan made two great plays down the RF line robbing 2 hits. Carlos Beltran contributed on the defensive side as well make 2 nice plays in CF.

For the first time in 13 games, the Mets scored more than 4 runs.

This is the team that we saw during the first half of the season. Johan Santana was brilliant setting the tone. The offense finally broke out scoring 6 runs. Jose Reyes scored 2 runs and Jason Bay finally contributed offensively. The team played crisp defense behind Santana and played a solid game all around. The Mets signed Johan Santana to be an Ace and a Stopper. That is exactly what they got tonight. Great win.
