Suggestion: Don't Rush Mejia

Last night Jenrry Mejia made his first start on the Triple-AAA level and was very successful. He went 8 IP, while only giving up 1 ER, 5 Hits, 1BB, and struck out 9 hitters. According to multiple reports, he was able to control both fastballs and his curveball was outstanding. After last night's game reporters asked Mets' Manager Jerry Manuel if Mejia could replace Pat Misch in the rotation this Saturday in Chicago. Manuel responded by saying, "I could be, as usual, be speaking out of turn, but, I think we’d like to see that, if he was that good.”

Here is a warning to the Mets organization. Don't rush Jenrry Mejia! I'm very happy and satisfied with his dominating performance on the Triple-AAA level. It was a great stepping stone for Mejia as a starting pitcher. However, it is one start. One start is not a good enough judge on whether or not he is ready to succeed on the major league level. Let him make a few more starts at AAA and get more experience under his belt. At this point, the Mets are not playing for a playoff spot. There is no need to rush him up to the big leagues. I understand that it would give the fans something to get excited about, but the team needs to be more concerned about developing Mejia into the best possible pitcher going foward. Please, don't rush this kid.
