The Mets lost the finale of their 11 game road trip yesterday by the score of 1-0.
R.A. Dickey was once again phenomenal as he limited the Dodgers to no runs in 5.2 IP. He gave up 6 hits and no walks, while striking out 6. He was forced to leave in the 6th inning with a leg injury in which he categorized as not serious.
In the Bot of the 8th with two outs and right handed hitting Russell Martin at the plate, Jerry Manuel left in the left handed throwing Pedro Feliciano which backfired as Martin drove an RBI 2B to the gap to score the games only run.
The Mets offense has now been shutout for the last 16 innings despite have 7 Hits yesterday. They left a total of 6 men on base. The Mets concluded their road trip going 2-9 and are 7 1/2 games behind division leading Atlanta.
Opinion: The offense was once again stagnant. Nobody was able to come up with this big hit when they needed it most.
This game showed exactly the decision making that gets Manuel in trouble all the time. After struggling terribly through the month of July Jerry said that he will only use Feliciano in situations that called for a lefty on lefty matchup. If this was the case why was Feliciano left in there to face Martin? He went against what he said he was going to do, and what he probably should do. In this case it cost him the game. I don't understand his logic to letting Feliciano face Martin.
