Rumors: Mets and Royals

According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Mets and Royals have discussed possible trades that include Royals players Gil Meche, Kyle Farnsworth and Jose Guillen, as well as Oliver Perez, Jeff Francoeur and Luis Castillo on the Mets.

Opinion: Intrigued by a few of the players that are mentioned. I think a swap of Gil Meche for Oliver Perez couldn't hurt anybody. Meche is coming off surgery and has been horrible for the Royals. We know about Perez's struggles. I feel a change of scenery might help both players. Kyle Farnsworth is a hard thrower, but did not perform well in NY with the Yankees and has never been able to get it done in a big spot. If these teams wanted to work something out, they could. Its just a matter of matching up the players and contracts.

  1. This would be a great trade for the Mets and it has nothing to do with the talent they get back, but the talent, or lack there of, they send back. Farnsworth and Guillen can be free agents. Meche gets the same money as Perez next year, while he may be as bad as him, at least there is a possibility he can be good enough to keep a spot in the rotation in the NL. And getting rid of Castillo's contract so they can sign a solid second baseman next year is a boon.

  2. I agree with you as far as getting rid of the bad contracts. However, there is no way that the Royals will take on both the contracts of Perez and Castillo. Perez and Meche are a wash in terms of contract, however, if the Royals were going to take on Castillo the Mets would have to take on another bad contract which I don't believe the Royals have. Guillen and Farnsworth are both free-agents after this season so they would be looking to get back prospects, not a guy like Castillo who still has 1 year left on his deal.
