Trade: Jose Guillen to SF

ESPN's Enrique Rojas reports that the Giants are close to acquiring Jose Guillen from the Royals.Guillen was designated for assignment by the Royals last week. He still has a little over $3 million owed to him for the rest of the season, but it isn't known if the Giants are willing to pay any of that salary. Rojas writes that Guillen could be in uniform with the Giants by as soon as tonight's game against the first-place Padres, so it sounds like this one is pretty close. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, A rival executive tells Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that a deal sending Jose Guillen to the Giants is "done."

Opinion - I love Jose Guillen as a player however I don't know if he fits in with this club. The giants already have a crowded OF with Andres Torres, Pat Burrell, Aaron Rowand, and Nate Schierholtz. Jose Guillen is not the type of player who takes well to being a "part-time" player which you would have to think will be his role considering how hot Pat Burrell has been since coming over to the Giants. Nate Schierholtz looks to be the player that will lose the most playing time.
