The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves tonight by the score of 3-2. This game started off very similar to how last night's game did. R.A. Dickey was on the mound tonight and was very solid once again. Still the Mets fell behind in the game. In the Bot of the 2nd the Braves put runners on the corners with 1 out for Melky Cabrera. Cabrera hit a slowly hit ball to Luis Castillo at 2B. Castillo quickly threw to Jose Reyes covering the bag for 1 out however Reyes did not make a return throw to 1st to attempt the double play. It looked as if Reyes had the time to get the throw to 1st for the double play, but
for some reason, Reyes thought otherwise and the Braves took at 1-0 lead. Reyes would quickly redeem himself thouh in the Top of the 3rd by lining an RBI 2B down the LF line to tie the score. The Braves then took the lead again in the 6th when Melky Cabrera hit a line drive triple to the RF gap to score Rick Ankiel all the way from first to give the Braves a 2-1 lead. Once again, the Mets tied the score, this time in the Top fo the 7th when Chris Carter came off the bench and got a huge RBI 1B to CF to tie the game at 2-2. The two teams traded zero's for the next 1 1/2 innings until the Top of the 9th, when Jeff Francoeur stepped to the plate and crushed a game winning Solo HR off former Mets closer Billy Wagner.
This was a very interesting game in my opinion. It seemed as if the Mets played 2 seperate games within the same game. I felt the Mets came out sloppy once again and it looked like they were going to go quietly into the night. However, as the game went on it was as if the light bulbs went on and the team realized how important this game was.
R.A. Dickey was once again very good. He got into some trouble tonight but as he has been able to do all season long, he worked out of it and limited the damage to only 2 runs. He proved again that he deserves to be in the starting rotation next year.
Chris Carter's hit was huge. This kid always seems to have a good at-bat everytime he is at the plate.
Then there is Jeff Francoeur. What can you say about him? He has been terrible as of late. He has looked absolutely lost at the plate. In the 7th he took a 4 pitch walk off Kyle Farnsworth. While doing so he looked very balanced which was a good sign for him. Then in hs next AB he got a fastball on the outside part of the plate and crushed it over the RF wall for the game winnng HR.
Manny Acosta and Francisco Rodriguez were fantastic tonight going a combined 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
What a big hit for Frenchy and this team. When he was on his way back to the dugout after hitting his long ball the team was extremely pumped up. They were slapping each other five all around. They knew how big of a hit that was for Frenchy and their season. They have now gotten even in the series. Tomorrow's game is huge. Mike Pelfrey will get the ball tomorrow night and go for the series win VS RHP Kris Medlan of the Braves. Game time is 7:10 PM.
