Craig Calcaterra of NBC sports heard from a source on Wed night that the St. Louis Cardinals are the "front runners" for Houston Astros RHP Roy Oswalt.
Opinion: A three headed monster of Carpenter, Wainwright, and Oswalt would be terrifying in a playoff series. If the Cardinals can some how pull this off, they would easily become the favorites in the National League if they aren't already.
I am slightly skeptical though that the Cards have enough payroll to take on Oswalts $16 million contract for next year, especially considering the fact that they need to extend Albert Pujols contract. Stay tuned as the trade deadline is only 10 days away.
