Post Game Wrap-up: Mets 5 D-Backs 4

The Mets defeated the D-Backs by the score of 5-4 tonight at CitiField. The Mets starter Hisanori Takahashi was excellent tonight. He struck out a career high 10 batters tonight over 6 Innings. He left the game with a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately for Takahashi, the Mets bullpen was not able to hold the lead for him to gain the win. For the second night in a row a Mets reliever came into the game with a lead, and was unable to record a single out. Tonight, Bobby Parnell was the culprit. Parnell came on to start the 7th Inning and was unusually ineffective. He gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk without retiring a batter. Pedro Feliciano and Manny Acosta came on in aid of Parnell and did a fabulous job limiting the damage. In the Bot of the 7th, with two out and nobody on, the Mets finally got something going. Jose Reyes drew a walk to get the rally started. Next, Angel Pagan came through once again with a 1B to RF. This set the stage for the red hot David Wright. Wright lined a ball the other way down the RF line to drive in both Reyes and Pagan to tie the score at 4-4. Francisco Rodriguez came on to pitch a 1-2-3 Top of the 9th. Then, leading off the Bot of the 9th Jesus Feliciano who came in the game earlier in a double switch, hit a 1-1 pitch to the Right CF gap that bounced against the wall for a lead-off triple. Jose Reyes would then pop out for the first out. D-Backs manager Kirk Gibson decided to IBB both Angel Pagan and David Wright to load the bases for Carlos Beltran. Beltran worked the count to 1-1, and then hit a deep fly ball to RF to score Feliciano for the Walk-Off win.

Wow, what a game. The one thing that you can say about this team is that they play hard and have been resilient all year. After falling behind in the 7th, the team could have easily hung their heads and waisted another great pitching performance. However, they immediately fought back to tie the score. Once again the top of the order provided all the offense with the 1-3 hitters going a combined 6-12 wth 4 RBI.

David Wright and Angel Pagan remain red hot. Wright went 2-4 with 3 RBI and a BB. Pagan went 3-4 with a BB and 2 R scored.

David Wright is now 8-12 with 2 HR and 8 RBI in his last 3 games.

Jerry Manuel made another questionable decision tonight. In the Top of the 7th with no outs and the bags full, he had Manny Acosta ready in the bullpen. However, he again decided to leave a struggling Bobby Parnell in to face Justin Upton who ended up hitting a 2-run 1B. Why have Acosta up if you are not going to use him in that spot?

Besides Parnell, the Mets bullpen was brilliant once again.

Carlos Beltran's game winning SAC Fly was his 5th RBI of the season. It had to feel great for Beltran. Great game and comeback. The Mets will look to keep the momentum going tomorrow afternoon at 1:10PM when they play the rubber game VS the D-Backs at CitiField. The pitching match-up will be LHP Jon Niese VS RHP Daniel Hudson.
