Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is still two days away, but there has already been a ton of trades. Add two more to the list:
The San Diego Padres acquired INF Miguel Tejada from the Baltimore Orioles for RHP Wynn Pelzer.
The Minnesota Twins acquired RHP Matt Capps from the Washington Nationals for C Wilson Ramos and LHP Joe Testa.
Opinion - The deal sending Miguel Tejada to SD is a good one for the Padres. Tejada will bring some much needed pop to a SD lineup that desperately needs power.
I am a little puzzled by the Twins trade for Matt Capps. I understand they needed a more battle tested closer. However, I feel they gave up a ton of talent in exchange for Capps. I understand that Ramos will not ever catch for the Twins because of Joe Mauer, but I feel they could have used Ramos for a better player in return. ESPN's Keith Law ranked Wilson Ramos as the twins 2nd best organizational prospect. For a team that is known for producing great home grown talent (ie. Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer), that is a mighty praise. I don't doubt that Matt Capps is going to help the Twins this year, but in the long run I feel the Nationals got the better of the deal. The Nationals have some very good young talent in their system. In a few years, they are going to be very tough to deal with.
