Rumor:

Mets out of the SP market?

According to ESPN's "Trade Rumors" the Mets may be out of the market for a starting pitcher due to the fact they feel that there is nobody out there better than what they have. The article reads:

They didn't have the pieces to acquire Cliff Lee from the Seattle Mariners, at least not without parting with first baseman Ike Davis, and the rest of the starting pitchers on the trade market don't appeal to GM Omar Minaya as much -- either due to trade cost, player salary or both -- so perhaps the club goes with what its got and adds to the roster in other areas, wrote Andy Martino Sunday.

Opinion: I find it hard to believe that the Mets actually feel that they have better in the rotation currently than what is out there. Hisanori Takahashi has been absoultely dreadful since his solid performance against the Yankees in the Bronx. Speculation continues to be that the Mets are desperately searching for a replacement in the rotation for Takahashi so that they can move him back to the bullpen. The Mets are well aware of how desperately they need to add a starter if they want to continue contending in the NL East and Wildcard races. There are guys out there that can be had without giving much back in return. Omar needs to get it done.
