Rumor: Phillies in hot pursuit of Oswalt

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that the Phillies have spent "a lot of time" exploring a deal for the Astros' Roy Oswalt.

Opinion: This would be disastrous for the Mets. Having to face a 1-2 punch of Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt would be a very daunting task. The Phillies would have to move some payroll in order to take on Oswalt's 16 million owed to him next year. The rumor is that they are desperately trying to move Jayson Werth who they feel they do not have a chance to re-sign next year due to his contract demands. Supposedly the Phillies are engaged in trade talks with the Tampa Bay Rays regarding Werth. If Werth is dealt, it is presumed that they will then promote top prospect Domonic Brown from Triple-A.

If the Mets do not acquire Oswalt and the Phillies do, Omar will be questioned big time by front office and fans on how he can let the ace right hander be traded to a division rival without exploring a deal.
